In a powerful move to ignite curiosity and drive change across the nation, Society for Science has awarded $275,000 in grants to 57 organizations committed to cultivating scientific curiosity and community impact. This initiative reflects the Society’s ongoing dedication to enhancing science education and advancing STEM literacy.

A Beacon for Grassroots Change

Society for Science has long championed the cause of empowering communities through scientific discovery. This commitment has reached new heights with the STEM Action Grants program, designed to support mission-driven nonprofit organizations striving to broaden opportunities for public engagement with STEM fields.

“This program remains a vital part of the Society’s commitment to empowering grassroots organizations across the nation,” said Maya Ajmera, President and CEO of Society for Science. As more communities learn about the program, it draws more new applicants—a testament to its expanding influence.

Innovations Across America

From the bustling Gulf Coast to the heart of rural Alabama, diverse programs are taking root. Robotics labs, environmental storytelling, and drone flight zones are just some innovative platforms making an impact this year. Whether it’s by exploring environmental mysteries or opening discussions on AI and cybersecurity, these programs hope to transform participants’ STEM experiences dramatically.

Celebrating Outstanding Initiatives

The Society’s commitment to showcasing exemplary work extends to highlighting standout organizations:

Algalita Marine Research and Education in California leads young ocean stewards in scientific explorations, uncovering the stunning realities of marine pollution and ecology.

Mississippi Delta Nature and Learning Center in Mississippi innovatively turns local landscapes into interactive learning environments, fostering a deep connection to community and nature among its students.

Project Invent is empowering students nationwide to be inventive problem solvers, working hand-in-hand with community members to tackle real-world challenges through invention.

The Impact and Demand

The overwhelming interest in the grants this year—over 200 applications—and the number of first-time applicants underscore a rising demand for more STEM education support. The program awarded a total of $1.42 million to 167 organizations since its inception in 2016.

Investments from sponsors like The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, Regeneron, and Simons Foundation fuel these initiatives, illustrating the growing importance of fostering future scientific leaders and thinkers.

According to Society for Science, this expansion of support is laying down pathways for future generations to engage deeply with science, creating a boundless future of opportunities.
