In a world often driven by individual acclaim, a remarkable group exhibition titled Boulders emerges as a testament to the strength of collective creativity. This exhibition, opening May 16 at Arcane Space in Venice, unites 34 artists from across North America and Australia, transcending boundaries of geography and medium. Organized in partnership with the Los Angeles-based art collective STONE/AGE, the event runs through June 1 and promises to be a captivating celebration of artistic connection.

A Gathering of Distinctive Voices

While the art world frequently places the spotlight on individual achievement, Boulders shifts the focus to what can be achieved through collaboration. Inspired by the metaphor of a cairn, the exhibition symbolizes individual voices converging to create something more substantial. “It’s the power of collective movements that most profoundly shape our perception of the world,” says Morleigh Steinberg, co-founder of Arcane Space.

A Canvas of Diversity

The exhibition showcases a diverse array of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and ceramics, captivating audiences with works such as Patrick Sullivan’s Impact II—a surfboard embedded with a pocket knife—and Severin Moore’s striking canvas, Muppet Baby Picasso. Each piece stands as a testament to the collective’s mission of mutual support and engagement with the present moment.

The Pioneers of STONE/AGE

Stone/AGE was founded in 2022 by artists who envisioned a collaborative model for art, publishing, and community growth. Holden Fuller, one of the co-founders, joined forces with Dillan Conniff, EM Graff, Kai Sugiyama, and Dominick Vanderlip, creating a collective that transcends traditional boundaries. Their vision has brought together artists from Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and far beyond.

A Community Event with Resonance

The exhibition opens with a vibrant reception on May 16, inviting art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in this collective journey at Arcane Space, located at 324 Sunset Ave. in Venice. As stated in SM Mirror, this event is more than just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of shared artistic strength.
